Laser treatment is at the forefront of the battle against aging. Fortunately, the New Youth Medical Spa in Savannah, Georgia offers Fraxel® laser skin resurfacing,laser hair removal, and other advanced treatments to combat the signs of aging and give patients the smooth, youthful-looking skin they desire.
The Fraxel® laser, in our opinion, represents the leading edge in non-ablative lasers. We are proud to offer both Fraxel® re:store™ and the newer Fraxel® re:pair™. These unique laser skin resurfacing systems offer the same benefits as more aggressive and invasive lasers, but with none of the discomfort or downtime. They are approved for the treatment of scars, age spots, melasma (darkened pigmentation of the face, commonly associated with pregnancy), wrinkles, and photo aging, and it can also be used for general skin resurfacing. Fraxel® lasers are especially effective in the treatment of acne scars as well.
Unlike many laser treatment systems, the Fraxel® re:pair™ can be used for skin rejuvenation on many areas of the body, including the face, neck, arms, hands, chest, and even knees. This highly advanced laser system offers extremely selective treatment, making it possible to treat very small, precise sections of skin without damaging surrounding tissue.
At our Savannah, Georgia practice, a full laser skin resurfacing treatment with the Fraxel® re:store™ system usually takes three to four sessions, spaced approximately three to four weeks apart, and each lasting about 30 minutes. The Fraxel® re:pair™ laser usually requires fewer treatments, but involves slightly more downtime in between. Depending on the degree and type of problem being treated, more or fewer treatments may be necessary to reach the desired result. The recovery time after each session is typically minimal, if there is any at all, and patients require no sedation or anesthesia during treatment. After each session, the skin may appear sunburned, and even peel slightly, as the outer layers of damaged skin are replaced by newer, fresher skin from beneath.
The Genesis laser system is used at our practice in Savannah, Georgia for both laser skin resurfacing and laser hair removal, unlike the Fraxel® system, which is only used for skin treatments. Preparation for laser treatments begins with a gentle cleaning of the skin to remove any oil, dirt, or makeup. A high frequency laser beam is then uniformly applied over the entire treatment area. The Genesis laser treatment will close enlarged pores, "plump up" fine lines, and stimulate collagen growth, giving you a tighter, more youthful appearance and hydrated, healthier-looking skin. The Genesis laser treatment requires no recovery time.
Photo Genesis is an IPL (intense pulsed light) treatment used to treat Rosacea, small capillaries, spider veins, pigmentation, age spot problems, and acne. The visible light emitted from the Genesis IPL laser is absorbed selectively by the pigmented spots in the skin. The heating of the pigmented cells causes a therapeutic effect. The IPL treatment is painless and requires no recovery time.
The Tri-Active laser is the newest anti-cellulite therapy tool. We use the FDA-approved Tri-Active laser system, in which a deep mechanical massaging action is applied to the tissue below your skin, resulting in a tighter appearance in the treated areas. The Tri-Active laser treatment is not painful and not even as strenuous as a traditional massage. It smoothes and tightens areas with cellulite on the legs, buttocks, stomach, arms, and back. The Tri-Active laser can also be applied to the face, making facial tissue appear more relaxed and balanced, with a fresh glow.
The Titan™ laser is an infrared laser skin resurfacing system designed to tighten and tone skin. The Titan™ laser treatment is effective for the face, neck, abdomen, arms, knees, and thighs. Brows can also be elevated with the Titan™ laser. Treatment usually requires three to four sessions, depending on the individual's skin type. There is no recovery time after the Titan™ laser treatment procedure.
Laser hair removal is a relatively quick and comfortable means of reducing the amount of body hair a patient has over the long term. Unlike shaving or waxing, which must be done frequently and often cause skin irritation, laser hair removal damages the follicles from which hair grows, preventing hair from appearing for an extended period of time, and sometimes permanently. Unlike electrolysis, which effectively stops hair growth permanently, laser hair removal does not involve individual treatment of each follicle, making it a faster and less painful procedure.
At our Savannah, Georgia practice, we perform laser hair removal with the Genesis laser (which is also used for laser skin resurfacing), a gentle system that is designed to remove undesired hair from the face and body. It works by delivering a pulse of light into the skin through a chilled hand-piece and allowing the light to penetrate the skin and damage the root of the unwanted hair. After treatment, the hair will gradually fall out and not be replaced, leaving smoother skin behind. Because laser hair removal only works on hairs that are in their active growing state, repeat treatments will be necessary to achieve the ideal result.
Laser hair removal treatments will vary in cost, depending on the size of the area being treated. Treatment can be applied to any area of the body, with the exception of the skin immediately surrounding the eyes.
Spider veins are clusters of tiny visible veins that frequently appear on the legs. Although they pose no medical problems, spider veins may bother some patients, who find them unsightly. In order to treat this common cosmetic problem, we use the Photo Genesis system to deliver light energy into the skin, targeting spider veins with a series of brief pulses. The light energy is absorbed by the spider veins, causing a coagulation effect and allowing the veins to collapse and be reabsorbed by your body. This poses no threat to blood circulation, as these miniscule veins are not a vital part of the venous system.
Acne scars can vary from tiny, hardly noticeable pockmarks to severe, skin-deforming scars. Treatment for acne scarring will depend on the degree of scarring, the type of scars present, and whether or not the acne is still active. Scars from old acne can be addressed with one of many laser skin resurfacing treatments, dermal fillers, or surgery. Scars associated with active acne must be treated somewhat differently to avoid further irritation of the skin and to slow the development of new acne lesions.
Acne scars cannot be removed completely, but proper, aggressive treatment can yield dramatic results. Acne scar removal treatment is a program requiring several treatments or sessions, and final results may take several weeks or months to appear, but they are usually worth it.
