Eyelid Lift (Blepharoplasty)
Because the eyes are often the most prominent feature of a person’s face, many surgeons feel that blepharoplasty, commonly known as eyelid surgery, is one of the most efficient means of rejuvenating a patient’s overall appearance. By smoothing the skin around the eyes and reducing any sagging or puffiness, Dr. E. Ronald Finger can take years off of a patient’s face, making him or her look younger and more awake. Dr. Finger almost always includes Eyelid Lift Surgery into his facelifts if budget is no issue.
Blepharoplasty can be performed on the upper eyelids, the lower eyelids, or both, depending on what is needed. Incisions are generally concealed inside the eyelids, or along the lash line, where the resulting scars will not be noticeable once healing is complete. During the procedure, Dr. Finger will tighten any muscles that are loose or drooping, remove fat deposits, and gently smooth the skin, trimming away any excess. Dr. Finger was one of the first physicians in Savannah to offer upper and lower eyelid surgery along with many other procedures. Learn more about Dr. Finger’s firsts here.
How long is the recovery for eyelid surgery?
Recovery from blepharoplasty inevitably involves a certain amount of irritation and discomfort for the first 4-5 days until the sutures are removed. Patients are given special instructions that explain how to care for the incisions, as well as the eyes, during the healing process. After the sutures are removed discomfort is minimal and by day 10 most bruising and swelling begins to subside. Some patients experience less bruising and swelling than others. Exact healing time depends on genetics, age, lifestyle, and if the patient had an upper and lower eyelid lift, or only one or the other.
